With the theme "Glaucoma and Cataract Summit: Vision for Tomorrow," this event promises to be a game-changer for ophthalmologists, researchers, and RANZCO Fellows from across the country. The evidence-based program will feature international and national speakers who will  talk about the latest advancements in the field.

The program is RANZCO CPD accredited.  By attending all three days, participants can claim:

  • 8 hours under Education (CPD event = RANZCO Queensland (QLD) Branch Annual Scientific Meeting)
  • 2 hours under Reviewing Performance (CPD event = Other Review Performance activities not listed)
  • 5 hours under Measuring Outcome (CPD event = Other Measuring Outcome/audit activities not listed)

Please note: any attendees who complete the pre-conference cataract audit will be eligible to claim up to AN ADDITIONAL 12.5 Measuring Outcome CPD hours.

Advancing retinal disease management: have we maximised patient outcomes, or can we go further?

This educational session will explore perspectives on the evolving field of retinal disease management. It will examine current approaches to intravitreal injection treatment, highlight challenges and unmet needs, and explore whether we can go further in enhancing clinical practice, maximising patient outcomes, and reducing treatment burden.

CHAIR

Dr Diana Conrad  

MBBS (Hons), BMedSci (QLD), FRANZCO

Dr Conrad is an Ophthalmologist with special interest in a range of subspecialty areas such as medical retina and inflammatory eye diseases. She graduated in medicine from the University of Queensland with first class honours and a University Medal. She undertook ophthalmology training in Brisbane and at the completion of her training was awarded a fellowship to undertake further training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. 

Subsequently, she was awarded the Cecilia Vaughan Fellowship to study at the University of California in San Francisco.

Dr Conrad practices at the Wesley Hospital and is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

SPEAKER

Associate Professor Anthony Kwan

MBChB (UK), MD(London), FRCOphth(UK), FRANZCO

Associate Professor Anthony Kwan is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon with an academic interest, and the Director of the Vitreoretinal Service at the Queensland Eye Institute, Brisbane. He received his schooling and medical training in England, and ophthalmology training in London. 

He spent over 10 years at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree on the subject of retinal transplantation from the Institute of Ophthalmology 

(University of London). He obtained his retinal fellowship training in London (Moorfields) and Perth. 

Associate Professor Kwan was the head of the Ophthalmology Department at Mater Hospital, Brisbane. He was also a past chairperson of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists (ANZSRS). He is currently a medical committee member of the Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA). In 2020, he was appointed to the chair of the MDFA’s research committee.

Dr Mark Donaldson

MBBS (HONS I), FRANZCO

Dr Mark Donaldson is a Retina and Macular Specialist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Queensland and underwent Ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in Melbourne.

He completed his fellowship in Retina and Vitreous Surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in the United States. He subsequently completed another fellowship in vitreoretinal and macular Surgery with Professor Stanley Chang, at the New York Presbyterian Hospital & Columbia University Medical Centre, New York.

Dr Donaldson practices at the Terrace Eye Centre and Queensland Eye Hospital. He also provides outreach retinal surgery in Bundaberg, Cairns, and Hervey Bay.
